I offer companies and organizations operating in Russia and Ukraine services as a trainer and coach. I attempt to
integrate my world-wide experience, academic credentials (from America, the Netherlands and Ukraine) with 15 years of practical
management experience in Ukraine and Russia to address expectations and attitudes, and effect behavioural change.
My primary focus is the enablement of people and processes, creating an organizational culture characterized by:
ethical, values-based behaviour;
corporate social responsibility;
participatory decision making;
energetic, fulfilled and creative staff;
high motivation to meet organizational goals and objectives;
effective project management;
teamwork; and
continuous learning and adaptation to market requirements.
Training offered is practical and participatory. Because of my personal experience as a manager, participants
discuss practical examples, or can explore the reasons why certain problems exist within an organization and why these problems
are resistant to improvements.
Results are achieved through a solution-focused questioning approach that facilitates self-insight, rather than
through advice-giving. I work to focus people on solutions instead of problems, to let them come to their own answers, and to
keep them focused on their own insights. For insights to be useful, they need to be generated from within, not given to
individuals as conclusions.
I undertake values assessments (see Cultural Transformation ToolsŪ and
Assessments) to map personal values, current
organizational values and desired organization values of a team or company. The results of these assessments provide facts
concerning the critical cultural issues in the organization and the opportunities for transformation. The values assessments,
and other measurement instruments, are used to provide indicators for measuring change and the success of the work.
I strongly recommend, in addition to using measurement instruments and training, an associated programme of coaching for
transformational leadership. Research has shown that training plus coaching is up to 4 times more effective than training
alone, and coaching has been shown to be worth up to 5 times its investment. In addition, formal leaders in Russia and Ukraine
are often too remote from institutional development activities. They need to be brought into the process or their aloofness
compromises the transformation activities, and coaching is one mechanism to integrate the formal leaders into the process.
